Beschreibungen
A discussion of the fundamental changes that occur when dynamical systems from the fields of nonlinear optics, solids, hydrodynamics and biophysics are scaled down to nanosize. The authors are leading scientists in the field and each of their contributions provides a broader introduction to the specific area of research. In so doing, they include both the experimental and theoretical point of view, focusing especially on the effects on the nonlinear dynamical behavior of scaling, stochasticity and quantum mechanics.
For everybody working on the synthesis and integration of nanoscopic devices who sooner or later will have to learn how to deal with nonlinear effects.
Part 1: Fluctuations
Part 2: Surface Effects
Part 3: Nanoelectromechanics
Part 4: Nanoelectronics
Part 5: Optic-electronic Coupling
Gunter Radons holds a Chair for Complex Systems and Nonlinear Dynamics at the Technical University of Chemnitz, Germany. His main research interests cover the application of the theory of complex systems to natural sciences and engineering. He is organizer and chair of many interdisciplinary symposia and workshops on this topic and has edited books on the topic.

Benno Rumpf works within his group on topic problems of nonlinear dynamics. He is responsible for the research activities on nonlinear wave processes and discretes breathers.

Heinz-Georg Schuster heads the Department of Theoretical Physics at the Christian Albrecht University Kiel, Germany. His research activities include the study of nonlinear systems by methods of statistical mechanics, applying analytical as well as numerical tools. Motivations are taken from neurobiological and biologically adaptive systems in order to design statistical models of their basic properties. He gathered much experience as author and editor of both scientific and popular publications.
Nanotechnology has developed rapidly in recent years, making it possible to engineer mechanical, optical or electronic devices that are the size of a few hundred atomic diameters.
The equations of motion of such nanoscopic systems are generically nonlinear, and they frequently operate in a regime where a linear approximation is not justified. The understanding of nonlinear dynamical processes in nanosystems is a new field of research of considerable technological importance.

This book give introductions to crucial fields of nonlinear dynamics of nano-systems. The topics cover a wide range of current research in this field.
