"Overall, this is a book with some excellent and topical content, particularly in the chapters on applications, which a reader who has some basic knowledge of rare earth chemistry will enjoy and find useful." (Chemistry World, 1 January 2011)
Chun-Hui Huang is a member of Chinese Academy of Sciences and a Professor Emeritus of Inorganic Chemistry at Peking University. From 1981 - 1983, Huang worked at Ames Laboratory and University of Arizona in the U.S. as a visiting scholar.
Although several books have been published in this field, there is not an advanced book focusing on coordination chemistry with systematic introduction of basic knowledge, application technology and the latest developments. With this book, readers will gain proficiencies in systematic basic aspects and the latest development of applications of rare earth coordination chemistry. Topics include the configuration of rare earth elements at ground states; β-diketonate lanthanide complexes; rare earth complexes with carboxylic acids, polyaminopolycarboxlic acids and amino acids; the coordination chemistry of rare earth alkoxides, aryloxides and hydroxides; organometallic lanthanide chemistry; rare earth coordination chemistry with fullerene as ligands; N-based rare earth complexes; rare earth polyoxometalate complexes; lanthanide-based magnetic molecular materials; gadolinium complexes as MRI contrast agents for diagnosis; photoluminescence and electroluminescence based on lanthanide complexes in visible range; Near-infrared (NIR) luminescence from lanthanide complexes; chemical and biological applications of luminescent rare earth complexes.

First book covering exclusively on rare earth coordination chemistry

Presents systematic introduction into rare earth coordination

Edited and organized by a highly regarded scientist in the field

With contributions from 16 international research groups, spanning Asia and N. Developed for classroom use, the book has the potential to become a main text for an advanced course on F-block. The book will also better equip postgraduates, researchers and engineers in relevant academia and industry who need an introduction into rare earth coordination chemistry.
