Preface

It is nearly more than 40 years ago that John Blandy published Lecture notes in Urology. He hoped that medical students might find it helpful and simplicity in presentation can aid easy understanding and appreciation. Urology has changed immensely over the years and continues to do so with new technologies and improved understanding of all urology disease stages including aetiology, sophisticated basics in science, cellular biology, immunology and genetics. For a book to be published, time is needed and the chance of being “old news” is always threatening. Electronic communications offer rapid delivery of knowledge. This new edition aims to deliver current various topics as a springboard to sources of continuous medical education. Readers are encouraged to get into the habit of making use of up-to-date urology guidelines available from the European Urology Association (EAU), American Urology association (AUA) and British Urological Association (BAUS). A plethora of resources offered by various publishers and other bodies allow access to up-to-date publications, debates and presentations in various forms including teaching videos. As an example, Wiley Online Library is one resource, out of many, which can offer information that is immediate.

I would like to express my thanks to many friends and colleagues, particularly my co-editors, KP and Andrew. I hope that this book will enable doctors and medical students to embrace urology.

Amir V. Kaisary
