Pre-conception care for women with medical disorders has also been stressed.

Medical Disorders in Pregnancy is one of the first texts written specifically for midwives that provides an outline of common medical disorders that may be affected by pregnancy or which may cause pregnancy complications. "This book is a long awaited text providing a comprehensive look at many of the medical conditions encountered by women during childbirth. Other texts with similar content have been recently produced but this text has the advantage of the information being presented in tabular format, thus making it easy to follow and an ideal reference tool. The care for each condition is broken down into pregnancy, labour and postnatal aspects and then presents expected care from the medical and midwifery perspective, although the reader will naturally have to apply any local policy for more specific care. The conditions are divided under logical headings and have been written by experienced professionals who have specialist knowledge in the field they are covering. There is also a welcome addition of a chapter covering addictive disorders and psychiatric disorders, both currently high on the agenda."
–Alison Edwards, Senior Midwifery Lecturer, Birmingham City University.
"Comprehensive coverage - systematic layout - extremely informative - simple and easy to understand language."
–Aine Kothari, Senior Lecturer, Anglia Ruskin University

"Easy to use and informative. Content relevant and up to date. Covers more topics than standard textbooks for midwives. Highly recommended."
–Lesley Daniels, Midwifery Lecturer, Leeds University

"A long-awaited text, providing succinct outlines of core required for wide range of commonly occurring conditions."
–Alison Edwards, Midwifery Lecturer, Birmingham City University

"Excellent book - contemporary, well organized and informative chapters well supported by tables. An excellent resource for midwives and students."
–Alison James, Midwifery Lecturer, Plymouth University
