Schema Therapy—an innovative psychotherapy approach utilizing cognitive-behavioral and experiential techniques—is a valuable tool for patients exhibiting various personality disorders. Recent research has confirmed Schema Therapy to be an effective (and cost-effective) treatment for people with borderline personality disorders. The Wiley-Blackwell Handbook of Schema Therapy provides a comprehensive overview of developments in the theory, diagnosis, treatment, research, implementation, and management of Schema Therapy. The volume includes international perspectives (e.g. USA, UK, Australia, Norway, Germany, Austria), as well as contributions and editorial oversight by Dutch researchers, widely recognized as the world leaders in Schema Therapy research.
Chapters begin with an introduction and description of the current state of affairs in Schema Therapy, followed by an overview of contemporary practice that includes some of the pitfalls and solutions to its implementation. Future developments in the field are also considered. The Wiley-Blackwell Handbook of Schema Therapy represents an important addition to this rapidly growing field of clinical psychology.

This book represents the next logical step in the development of Schema Therapy: a state-of-the-art extension of the schema approach to new areas of theory, research, and clinical practice. There is no better way for readers to grasp the extent of the new theoretical, research, and clinical work that has been done in recent years than to study the chapters in this handbook. I believe that it should be required reading for anyone interested in the field.
—Jeffrey Young, Department of Psychiatry, Columbia University and Schema Therapy Institute of New York
