<b>Dr. Robert A. Meyers</b>, the Editor in Chief (EiC) of the Encyclopedia of Cell and Molecular Biology and Molecular Medicine, originated the Encyclopedia and continues responsibility for the project.<br /><br />Dr. Meyers has a Ph.D. in organic chemistry from UCLA and was a postdoctoral and faculty member at the California Institute of Technology. He is president of Ramtechlimited and is author or editor in chief of an additional twelve books and 20 technical papers as well as ten patents.
<p>Since it was first considered that RNA could function as both messenger and part of the translation machinery, RNAs have been found to be versatile molecules that not only play key roles in many important biological processes – like splicing, editing, protein export among others – but can also act catalytically and have many complex regulatory roles in cellular processes. There is still much work to be done before we fully understand RNA’s diverse nature, let alone all of its roles in both healthy and diseased states.</p> <p>With each contributor carefully selected and a recognized expert in his or her field, these two volumes bring together the different functions of the various forms of RNA in a comprehensive overview, with special focus on the different forms of gene expression regulation, which have potential applications in health and disease.</p> <p> </p>
