Ilya Prigogine (1917-2003) was a Belgian physical chemist who won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1977. The Nobel Prize was awarded in recognition of his contributions to nonequilibrium physics and especially thermodynamics far from equilibrium. Prigogine was a member of the Brussels School of Thermodynamics. He is also known for his work in chaos theory and complexity theory.
